Need To Start Somewhere
That title has two meanings. One refers to a father's blogging procrastination and the other refers to a child's verbal procrastination.
First for dada : He has had such great intentions to get this blog rolling...literally for years. The problem is that he wants our entries to not only be funny and clever enough to hold everyone's attention, but also to be a COMPLETE diary of our lives. We hope to go back and fill in the things that we have missed..... now more than 5 years of "stuff." But, mom and dad don't even have our photos current! So, we decided to just get started and try and stay current in "the present" and put no pressure on dad (but WE WILL) to get "the past" up here. So, here it goes:
Second and clearly more importantly, after giving us "dada" almost a year ago, this past week Cody finally decided to break his radio silence and has started saying his new favourite word...... "Shark." He said "dada" for almost everything during the last 12 months. He occasionally says "mama," but really with very little regularity. Everything has been "dada" or "screeeeeech." Cody is living proof that the boy who gets everything (especially attention) doesn't need to talk.
Its the old joke...... There was a boy who for years never spoke a word. His parents went to all of the specialists and no one could cure him. They had simply resolved that he was mute and that he would never speak. Then, one morning when he was 8 years old, he was sitting at the breakfast table. He yelled "Mom!" Stunned, she quickly turned to look at the boy. As if he had spoken his whole life, he blurted "You burnt the toast." In disbelief, the mother asked why he had never spoken for 8 years.... he looked at her and replied "There was never anything wrong until now."
We can't promise consistent blog entries just yet, but it seems likely that the words will start flowing from Cody's mouth. He has already added "fish" and "car" in the last few days.

Jake is Practicing to be able to do this with Advance Australia Fair (the Australian National Anthem)
Be patient and make sure you watch this at least to the middle - supposedly there are no tricks, just a talented guy with way too much time on his hands.
For those of you interested in practicing with Jake - here are the lyrics (We'll provide "alternative" version when we have some time to work it out):
Australians all let us rejoice
For we are young and free
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea:
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page let every stage
Advance Australia fair,
In joyful strains then let us sing
Advance Australia fair.
Beneath our radiant Southern Cross,
We'll toil with hearts and hands,
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands,
For those who've come across the seas
We've boundless plains to share,
With courage let us all combine
To advance Australia fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia fair.
